Who doesn’t love to dip a biscuit in their cuppa? We put some upmarket treats to the dunk test

WAITROSE Waitrose No.1 Belgian Dark Dipped Chocolate Shortbread

£2.49 (7 pack)

THIS rich chocolate shortbread has been dipped in Belgian dark chocolate and is as divine as it sounds. But they didn’t gain anything from being dunked in a cuppa.

Island Bakery Organic Chocolate Gingers

£3.49 (8 pack)

THE second most expensive was not a favourite. It looks like an elegant biscuit to serve up but as there are a lot of flavours – dark chocolate, biscuit and a chunk of stem ginger – dunking didn’t seem to do much for it.

LIDL Deluxe Stem Ginger All Butter Cookies

£1.19 (12 pack) WINNER

CRUMBLY and buttery with chunks of crystallised stem ginger, these are amazing biscuits. These are great value for money and the best for dunking in your coffee as the biscuit soaks it all up deliciously.

Overall score: 9/10

Tower Gate Chocolate ChipShortbread Rounds

99p (8 pack)

A VERY pleasant shortbread, especially for the price. The chocolate chip ratio was a bit of a let down but these bargain biscuits were a buttery delight.

MARKS & SPENCER Extremely Chocolatey White Chocolate Rounds,

£1.85 (9 pack) RUNNER UP

ABSOLUTELY phenomenal – the chocolate melts in your mouth and the shortcake biscuit adds crunch.

Dunkability: 8/10

Overall score: 10/10

SAINSBURY’S Taste the Difference Belgian Chocolate Chunk Shortbread Rounds

£2.00 (9 pack)

LIKE Lidl’s, the chocolate chip to biscuit ratio was a little disappointing, but the biscuit itself was buttery and sweet. It didn’t crumble when dunked, but I don’t think I could “taste the difference” between these and Lidl’s 99p ones.

Dunkability: 6/10

Overall score: 6/10

TESCO Tesco Finest Quadruple Chocolate Cookies

£1.59 (8 pack)

PACKED with white, milk, and dark chocolate chunks, these cookies are a real treat. The bottom is dipped in milk chocolate. Might go down better with a glass of milk than a cuppa.

Dunkability: 6/10

Overall score: 8/10

Fox’s Viennese Raspberry and Cream

£1.79 (8 pack)

CUSTARD cream meets Jammy Dodger – a nice concept but a little sickly. The jam and cream doesn’t make these a good dunkers.

Dunkability: 2/10

Overall score: 4/10
