Huge smoke plumes from Park Royal bakery fire

GAS MAIN RUPTURED CAUSING ‘VERY COMPLEX’ BLAZE

-

More than 80 firefighters worked through the night to bring a huge “very complex” bakery fire in West London under control.

The fire in Park Royal was first reported to the London Fire Brigade at 6.19pm on Thursday but was not brought under control until 3.41am on Friday.

Thick black smoke billowed from the factory unity across the sky over North West London and was even reported across parts of Central London.

Firefighters have warned that residents who can still smell the remnants of the fire from the factory should keep all doors and windows closed as a precaution.

The fire destroyed three two-storey commercial units in Minerva Road and was made more difficult when a gas main ruptured during the firefighting efforts.

A total of fifteen fire engines were at the scene, with around 80 firefighters working to bring the fire under control for almost ten hours.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman told MyLondon that there were no injuries and that firefighters will remain at the scene through the day to damp down remaining pockets of fire.

Fire investigators from London Fire

Brigade will begin their investigation once the firefighting operation is completed.

Residents of the area are still being asked to keep doors and windows closed.

Assistant commissioner Graham Ellis said: “This is a severe, complex and highly visible fire with our 999

Control taking over 50 calls in the early stages. There was a lot of thick black smoke in the area and we asked local residents to close their doors and windows.”

“The layout of the building and a ruptured gas main made firefighting difficult but firefighters worked throughout the night to bring it under control. Thankfully there are no reports of any injuries.”
