WEST London is about to become home to the biggest regeneration site in Europe.

A whopping 45,000 homes are due to be built around the site of Old Oak Common station, where Crossrail and HS2 will meet.

Crossrail, which is now in its final stages, is the new rail line that will run from Reading and Heathrow, west of London, to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the East.

HS2 is starting at London Euston, heading out to the west of London and onwards to Birmingham.

Both lines will pass through Old Oak Common.

The area immediately around Old Oak Common, plus the Park Royal area, will be transformed into a new neighbourhood.

And there will be a huge 45,000 new homes as part of the plan.

At the moment, according to Savills and Molior, around 25,000 homes are already in the process of being built or being planned. They will run either side of the A40.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is also calling for a further 20,000 new homes to go up as part of a local plan.

His proposals are due to be submitted by the end of 2020.

The homes will be built on 126 separate sites, including places like Willesden, Shepherd’s Bush and Acton.

The idea is that this new neighbourhood will both become a great place to live and somewhere to visit, with easy access due to Old Oak Common station.

“When people will get off HS2 or Crossrail at Old Oak there must be an incredible new neighbourhood waiting for them,” said Liz Peace, chair of the Old Oak Common and Park Royal Development Corporation.

Park Royal is actually a protected industrial area, which means many of its buildings can’t be converted into houses. Instead there’s a growing creative hub in the area, as buildings are instead being used as artists’ workshops.
