Burglars jailed after stealing presents while carrying guns
PAIR HAD TRAVELLED TO CLEVELAND TO CARRY OUT A NUMBER OF RAIDS
TWO heartless burglars who shamelessly stole Christmas presents while armed with guns have been jailed.
Kai Downie, 24, and Reymell Headlam, 22, travelled to Teesside in December 2019 before going on a burglary spree.
Downie, of Fulham Court, Fulham and Headlam, of Hartfield Road, Wimbledon, targeted properties in Eaglescliffe, Middlesbrough and Ingleby Barwick.
The pair were caught by Stockton detectives and were convicted of a number of offences.
On Friday December 18 they were sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Julie Spring, said: “I am pleased with the sentences handed to Kai Downie and Reymell Headlam.
“The pair travelled to Cleveland to commit crime and collectively they have been responsible for a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries around the area.
“Thankfully, Stockton CID located the suspects and now they have been brought to justice and will answer for their crimes.”
Teesside Crown Court was told that a VW Golf GTI and Christmas presents were stolen during a burglary in Cradoc Grove, in Ingleby Barwick.
There were four attempted burglaries at properties in Sunningdale Drive, Eaglescliffe, and three in Acklam, Middlesbrough – in Holt Close, Church Lane and Buttermere Avenue.
Downie pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to burgle, theft and assaulting an emergency worker, Teesside Live reports.
The two men were both accused of firearm and ammunition offences.
Downie denied possessing a prohibited firearm and possessing ammunition without a firearm certificate
Headlam pleaded guilty to both of these charges, as well as with having a bladed article and possessing a Class B drug.
Headlam denied a charge of possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply.
They were both sentenced last week after a trial at Teesside Crown Court.
