Place available on RYLA activity course
THE Rotary Club of Elthorne-Hillingdon Is looking to fund a young person with a strong connection to London Borough of Hillingdon, to take part in RYLA this summer. What is RYLA?
RYLA is an outdoor activity residential course in Wales for people aged 18-25, where you learn new skills and develop leadership skills. Previous participants have found it has greatly benefitted their self-confidence. Further information is on the publicity material provided. What does it cost?
The scheme is free of charge and fully inclusive of travel (from Hillingdon), accommodation, food and all activities. You may wish to bring a drink and a snack for the journey or a small amount of money to purchase something en-route.
You will be provided a recommended kit list – sensible clothing for outdoor activities.
Who can take part?
We welcome applications from young people with a strong connection to the London borough of Hillingdon, aged 18-25. You can be 17 when you apply, but it is essential for legal and insurance reasons that you will have turned 18 by the start date, July 17 this year.
We will especially welcome applications from candidates who would not otherwise be able to participate in a scheme of this type.
Please check that you are available for the above dates.
Is there anything else I should know?
We will ask you to attend one of our club meetings in Uxbridge do deliver a presentation afterwards, to tell us how it went and what you learned. We would ask you to spread the good word about RYLA and Rotary (if you’d recommend it, of course!)
We would also like to invite you to Rotary in the Thames Valley 1090 District Conference 18-19 March 2022 in Oxford.
What about COVID-19?
The week will only go ahead if it is safe to do so and compliant with any restrictions in place at that time. All recommended precautions will be taken.
We would recommend you do not purchase any items specially for the week until nearer the time. Who are we / what is Rotary? Rotary is an international humanitarian organisation carrying out projects to improve people’s lives around the world, for example working to eradicate polio. Locally, Elthorne-Hillingdon club is proud to support the work of Yiewsley &
West Drayton Foodbank, Michael Sobell Hospice and Hillingdon Dementia Action Alliance. We are delighted that there is now a thriving Rotaract club at Brunel University London, the younger adult branch of the Rotary family.
Our club president-elect completed the RYLA scheme and chose to join our club many years later. How do I apply?
Please write to Mike Udall udall. mibr@gmail.com, telling us a little bit about yourself and how you think you would benefit from the programme. Please attach a CV. Shortlisted candidates would be invited to an interview via Zoom.
The closing date for applications is Monday March 15.
