Animal Rescue with Marion Garnett

Dedicated animal expert Marion Garnett, founder of the Ealing Animal Charities Fair, continues her column

What do the Queen, Diana Ross, David Attenborough and Joe Biden all have in common? Yes, you’re right. Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you stop living life to the full. But Frank, an older boy, himself, already knows this.

This Staffordshire Bull Terrier doesn’t intend to stop having fun anytime soon. He’s a friendly boy who loves to be around people so needs an owner who is home all day. Frank came into the care of the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) after his owner wasn’t able to give him the time he needed.

He’s a clever Staffie who knows “sit”, “down”, stay” and loves to play with a tennis ball. He just wants a new owner to be with as he doesn’t like being on his own.

Frank is looking for a quiet home where he’s the only pet. If this could be with you, call 020 8950 0177 or see details at nawt.org.uk.

Of course, not everything improves with age and NAWT need to replace the worn-out roof on one of their rehoming kennel blocks. Because, at present, they are raising funds for a new Admission Block, they are reluctant to ask for money for other work that needs to be done. So, instead, they are asking if anyone who works in a building company could get them some of the items they need.

This includes items such as general purpose OSB 3 Board (no, I don’t know what I’m talking about either), IKO green mineral shed felt roll and studwork CLS timber. If you can help, email j.defriez@ nawt.org.uk.

Many readers will know it’s a year since the last Ealing Animal Charities Fair. The fundraiser is normally on the first Saturday in March and we just got last year’s in before lockdown.

Since then, I’ve kept my ear close to the ground to see what we could do this year. I had booked the fair to take place in July, instead of March but, if you’re organising something, there’s comes a point when a decision has to be made and money spent.

After that, if it doesn’t go ahead, money will be lost. So, disappointingly, it’s now been decided to cancel the fair this year but it has been booked for March 5 next year. Do put the date in your diary now. One of the key reasons for cancellation is the uncertainty regarding social distancing. But all is not lost, you can keep in touch with the fair by following it on Twitter @EalingAnimalFair.
