School forced to raise funds for supplies

- By FINN BYRNE

NORTH Ealing School, Ealing, is raising money to provide essential supplies for children through a joint parent-teacher fundraising campaign.

Teachers and parents will run the Ealing half marathon in attempts to raise £13,500.

The school will use the money raised to invest in four interactive whiteboards.

The team of runners have joined together to fundraise because the budget given to the school doesn’t cover big spends.

Peggy Juche, spokesperson for

North Ealing Primary School, and the fundraising marathon team, said: “The money raised will be used to buy four interactive whiteboards for the school. They are brilliant and loved by teachers as well as the children at NES.

“Budgets for schools are small and do not allow for big spends like interactive whiteboards.

“With technology being such an important factor in our and our kids’ lives we want our children to grow up with it, to be at ease with tech and to use it to their best advantage.

“The Parent Teacher Association funds a lot of tech supplies and another set of whiteboards will be very welcome by everyone. “Our goal is to raise £13,500.” The school organised a team twice before but then had to pause the fundraising effort because of covid.

It offers weekly coached training sessions for free and only ask that each person entering as part of their team tries to fundraise.

Peggy continued and said: “When the kids went back to school only in spring this year we had to decide quickly if we wanted to tackle it because it was already quite late.

“We went for it because it is a great community initiative, includes different people and it is sporty.

“A lot of people started to exercise more over lockdown and we wanted to give them a goal.

“We set up a JustGiving Page for the whole team as well as individual pages for each of them.

“Today absolute beginners can run long distances, and are looking forward to the Ealing Half Marathon.

“A fantastic team has grown, parents met, friendships started and a lot of excitement is on.

“I am happy we decided to go for it!”

Ealing Half Marathon will take place on Sunday September 26.
