Marco Silva apologises to fans after Fulham’s hefty loss

-

FULHAM head coach Marco Silva took full responsibility after his side were beaten 4-1 by in-form Coventry City at the CBS Arena on Saturday.

Mark Robins’ side have leapfrogged Fulham, moving up to third in the Championship table behind West Brom and Bournemouth.

Second-half goals from Viktor Gyokeres (2), Matt Godden and Ian Maatsen secured all three points, after falling 1-0 behind through a Kyle McFadzean own goal.

Silva admitting that the way in which Fulham approached the second-half was ‘wrong’.

“It was a balanced game first half – they started strong and tried to show a reaction after the tough result they had last Wednesday and we tried to do it in the same way,” Silva told Fulham’s club media.

“We controlled the first half and we scored early and they didn’t create many chances apart from some corners.

“We tried to change something during half-time to explore the space we knew they can create with their organisation and after that everything went wrong.

“Unfortunately the referee did everything wrong as well because it’s a clear dive for the penalty, no foul at all, but it is not his fault we lost.

“After that we had enough time to react, to do different things, but we have to react in a different way.”

More than 1,800 Fulham fans travelled to Coventry and this was something that did not go unnoticed by the Portuguese boss.

“It’s something that I don’t like to say, but I have to apologise to our fans,” Silva added.

“They came here in good numbers, tried to support us and everything we did in the secondhalf was wrong.”
