Arrest after football fan suffers head injury

LUTON FAN FIGHTING FOR LIFE IN HOSPITAL AFTER QPR MATCH

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a football fan suffered a head injury, leaving him fighting for his life.

Detectives arrested the man as part of their investigat­ion into the incident that happened following the Queens Park Rangers vs Luton Town fixture on Friday night.

After disorder broke out following the match, officers found a man suffering a serious head injury in Uxbridge Road, near the junction with Devonport Road.

The unnamed 52-year-old victim, who is from the Luton area, was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. He remains in a life-threatenin­g condition.

Enquiries into the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the incident are ongoing as the arrested man remains in custody.

Detectives continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed disorder after the match or who saw the incident that caused the injury.

In an earlier statement, Metropolit­an Police Detective Constable Arrash Faghihi said: “This man sustained a serious head injury, and it is vital that we make contact with witnesses quickly.

“The area was extremely busy after the match and there will undoubtedl­y be many people with informatio­n that will assist police. I need them to get in touch as detectives work to build a complete picture of what happened on Friday night.”
