Dernbach becomes Middlesex specialist

FORMER FAST BOWLER THE LATEST CONSULTANT APPOINTED BY COUNTY

-

JADE DERNBACH has joined Middlesex as a consultant fast bowling coach.

Johannesburg-born Dernbach, 36, will become the latest specialist consultant coach to join up with Middlesex.

He follows Mark Ramprakash, who recently extended his appointment as the club’s consultant batting coach until the end of the 2022 season.

Dernbach carved out a fastbowling career at Middlesex’s London rivals Surrey, which spanned one year short of two decades.

During this time he took an incredible 583 wickets in all three domestic formats and played for England 58 times, picking up a further 75 international wickets across both white-ball formats.

After joining Middlesex, Dernbach said: “I am delighted to be joining Middlesex Cricket as a bowling consultant for this season.

“Having spoken to Jono and Coley, the opportunity to work with such a talented squad of players was one that I had to take.

“I’m very honoured to be joining such a great club and look forward to working with and helping all the squad to challenge on all fronts this year“

First team coach Richard Johnson added: “We are delighted to have secured the services of Jade as our consultant fast bowling coach for the 2022 season and I am really excited about working with him.

“He brings an enormous amount of experience, is incredibly passionate about his work, and has only recently finished playing the game.

“We are well aware that the appointment of a cricketer who played for our rivals for the best part of 20 years may raise a few eyebrows with Middlesex members, however having worked closely with Jade over the time I spent at Surrey, I speak with firsthand knowledge of what an exceptional operator he is.

“As a coaching group, we want to bring in the very best talent available to help our players improve their performance levels and in Jade I know we have exactly that.

“I’ve seen the way he works with players, the knowledge and skills he has to share and the manner in which he approaches things – he is just the man we need at Middlesex to get the best out of our pace attack.”

Head of men’s performance cricket Alan Coleman said: “We are thrilled that Jade has agreed to become the club’s consultant batting coach.

“He is a master of his skills, will be a huge asset to the coaching group here and will be of enormous benefit to the pace bowlers we have in our ranks.

“Our plan as a coaching group is to bring in specialist consultant coaches to work with the group and the players, to add expertise where we feel it is needed, and in Jade we couldn’t have our fast bowlers in better hands.

“We’ve all seen what a brilliant competitor he is and what a fantastic exponent of pace bowling he is, and the relationship he has with Jono from the time he spent with him at Surrey made him the natural choice for this role.

“We can’t wait to start working with him and our bowlers are excited about the prospect of learning from one of the best in the business.”
