Gwyneth: ‘I’ll pick Chris’s next girlfriend’

Chris Martin raised eyebrows last week when he serenaded Charlize Theron with a song he’d written especially for her at her charity fundraiser in Newport Beach. And now heat can reveal their unlikely matchmaker.
Chris’ ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow wants to ensure she approves of his next girlfriend – and her sights are set on Charlize. An insider tells heat, “Even though Gwyneth is gearing up to marry Brad [Falchuk], she still takes an interest in what Chris is up to. Chris is so laid-back, he hasn’t batted an eyelid at Gwyneth staying involved with his love life.”
Prior to Charlize, 41, the 40-year-old Coldplay frontman dated actress A nnabelle Wallis, but the relationship recently fizzled out after they spent time apart. “Chris and Annabelle were on shaky ground – their schedules conflicted and Annabelle never made any secret of the fact that she wanted to live in London,” says our source. “Gwyn didn’t warm to her, and was determined to keep Chris close to her and the kids [Apple, 12, and Moses, 11] in LA, and Chris doesn’t like the idea of getting serious with someone Gwyn doesn’t approve of.” And it seems Charlize is Gwyn’s No1 choice. Our source says, “Gwyn has been friends with Charlize for years, and loves the fact that she’s an amazing mom who already has a great relationship with Chris’ kids [who know Charlize’s children, Jackson, five, and August, two], too.” Luckily, the actress is on board. “Charlize told Gwyn she doesn’t want to hook up with a player and wants to date someone in the industry – a dad ideally – who understands her career demands. So a few months ago, Gwyn broached the topic with Charlize, and she was open to it. She already knows Chris through Gwyn and thinks the world of him, so they’re starting with a solid friendship.”
The source adds, “Gwyn has hosted a few dinners, inviting Chris and Charlize over. She really pushed them together and talked Charlize up to Chris. Best of all, Gwyn and Brad can double date with Charlize and Chris and everyone’s happy. It couldn’t have worked out better.”
