Robert and a newly released Aaron returning to the village should warm every Robron fans’ cockles. However, sadly for them (and Romeo and Romeo themselves), there’s trouble brewing in paradise. For no sooner have Robert and Aaron settled into married life back home, than an encounter with moneygrabbing Ross tips guilt-ridden Robert over the edge and he ’fesses up to his infidelity with Rebecca. But has this time in prison made Aaron more forgiving? Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert, has his say...
How anxious is Robert about returning home with Aaron?
Very anxious. They’ve been away from the problems in the village for a few weeks, but now they are back he can no longer avoid it, and it could be all over for him and Aaron.
Why does he decide to confess all to Aaron?
He’s under a lot of pressure with Ross continuing to blackmail him, so he goes to see Rebecca to plead with her to make Ross stop. While he’s there, she tells him that if he really cared about Aaron he’d be honest with him, rather than doing everything to conceal it from him, and he realises she’s right.
A novel idea. Is he very stressed about telling him?
Obviously – he’s worried he might lose him.
Is he scared Aaron could leave him, or self-harm, as a result?
I guess he’s worried Aaron won’t react well, given the history between him and Rebecca and the fact that Robert has always insisted Aaron was being paranoid about there being anything between them. But, obviously, he doesn’t want to hurt Aaron, which he will inevitably do by telling him the truth.
Is there any part of Robert that wants to have a baby?
No – I don’t think it’s ever really crossed his mind. All he can think about is saving his relationship. Does he have any feelings for Rebecca? As a friend, yes. But I think that’s about to become ver y complicated.
Would you personally like to see Robert become a dad?
There are very few Sugdens left in the show, and Victoria has been struggling to conceive, so I think it would be nice to add a few more before they become extinct.
Now the truth’s out, do you think they can move on and be happy?
Well, we’ll have to see what happens once Robert confesses to Aaron about Rebecca. Hopefully they can work this out and be happy.
