He’s recording an album in Wyoming, she’s in LA with the kids. Are Kim and Kanye preparing to split?
We’re coming up to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s third wedding anniversary – on 24 May – but things seem far from loved-up between the couple. Just last week, Kanye left LA for a remote mountain top in Wyoming, where he’s working on the follow up to last year’s Life Of Pablo album. He also deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts, leaving no trace of his legendary rants online.
Kim, however, stayed back in LA, and barely mentioned his absence, instead choosing to continue to film Keeping Up With The Kardashians, promote the kids’ clothing line she started with Kanye, and post adorable photos of their children, North, three, and Saint, 17 months.
But friends say the reason for Kanye leaving his family 1,000 miles away in LA is more than just work – it could also be about spending time apart to get their marriage
back on track. “Kim told Kanye he needs to be in the wilderness to make his next album in peace and quiet, and reconnect with his music, but everyone’s worried it’s masking other issues,” says an insider close to the family, who’s worked with them for years. “We’re all concerned that this could be a sign their marriage is on the rocks and that they want time apart.”
As heat reported last week, Kanye’s recovery from his breakdown and hospitalisation in November 2016 means he’s often based at his Hollywood apartment, while Kim and the kids have been staying with her mum Kris Jenner in Calabasas. “If Kanye was still in LA, then there would be a lot more questions asked as to why they’re spending time apart and why he’s seemingly no longer involved in anything Kardashian,” says the insider, who adds that Kanye is no longer filming for the show. “Making him disappear up a mountain provides a lot of answers to tricky questions. Kanye is in a very odd place in his
life right now, so he’s happy to take a break. Kim convinced him that this was the best solution for him, as it would allow him to take time out of the spotlight, find himself again and stay out of the reach of the paparazzi.”
And friends claim that this time apart seems to be working for Kim, too. “In a way, I think she’s enjoying the freedom to do what she wants, knowing Kanye’s out of the city and has a good crew around him, including his personal trainer and two of his closest friends,” says the source.
“Kourt and Khloé can’t believe that Kim has managed to convince him to go to Wyoming. It’s not like Kanye has ever been up a mountain before – he’s a city boy who grew up in Chicago, he doesn’t really get his musical inspiration from nature!”
The friend adds, “Right now, things are very tough for their marriage.” As heat reported last week, Kim has been to see her divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, “to get things in order in case they split”, and earlier this month, she attended the Met Gala without her husband for the first time in four years. “Kanye’s behaviour can be erratic, and sometimes it’s almost like she doesn’t know who he is any more,” says the friend. “Everyone’s worried for the marriage right now, but we’re hoping things will improve.”
The friend continues, “Kim’s attitude is, if they’re both going to work through this, then they need to spend some time away from the life they were leading and go back to who they were when they were on their own, hopefully to help them have a future together.
“That means Kim being her true self and Kanye getting better through his music.”
