‘I agonised over leaving’

wanted to know how it tied into everything that’s been happening to Nick. But it does tie in brilliantly. Psychologically, Nick is losing it over the situation with Steve and Oli. It all boils down to him wanting his own child, and now he finds himself ha

How come you’re leaving?

To spend more time with my family [Ben’s dad to Paloma, ten, and Max, seven]. I live hundreds of miles away from Manchester and I’ve been away for many years now. It was time. Of course, I agonised over it, though. I’ve had the best time, the best storylines and worked with the best family, so it was tough to leave it all behind.

How did you feel when you were told that your departure storyline involved quicksand? I was a bit surprised, and Tell us a bit about the day at the seaside… It’s a very weird situation –

Nick suggests it, he is still trying to make it work. He’s hoping that Steve or Peter will mess up on that day and he will expose the two men in some way, but he only ends up exposing his own flaws and issues. He ends up storming off after a very nasty conversation with Steve and Peter, and he doesn’t like what he’s become.

Is he trying to kill himself?

No, not at all. He knows he’s never going to be happy with Leanne, because there is too much else going on, so he takes himself away from the situation – but hasn’t bargained for the tide or the quicksand.

Are you going to steal any mementoes? I’d like Nick’s

Crombie coat, if they’ll let me. That’s the only thing I want to take.
