The Leftovers

Sky Box Sets & NOW TV, from Thursday 1 June

- Boyd Hilton

We recently ran a heat Interview with Justin Theroux – aka Mr Jennifer Aniston – who was a total delight, and this is the fantastic show he was discussing. Based on the best-selling novel by Tom Perrotta, and adapted for TV by Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of Lost, it’s one of the best US dramas of recent years, but hasn’t had the same attention as pop-cultural phenomena

Stranger Things or The Walking Dead. Now, seasons one and two are arriving to binge on in time for the start of the third and final season in July. The initial premise focuses on the small town of Mapleton, NY, three years after 140million people – two per cent of the world’s population – vanished without a trace. The ones left behind, including Theroux’s police chief Kevin Garvey, and characters played by Christopher Eccleston and Liv Tyler, try to get on with their lives in a world that’s changed forever. Meanwhile, everyone’s trying to work out what happened to the ones that disappeared, leading to conflict and trauma all over the place. Season one is a tad slow, but things get gloriously weird in season two.
