The Real Full Monty
ITV, Thursday 15 June, 8.30pm
It’s been 20 years since a small British film about a group of unemployed dudes stripping in Sheffield became a global sensation – and The Full Monty still delights today. After all, what’s not to like? It’s very funny, it’s uplifting, it’s got a great soundtrack and there are bottoms. Lots of bare bottoms! So, when we heard that eight celebrity menfolk had agreed to recreate the iconic routine from the original film in all its naked glory, we couldn’t get down to The London Palladium to watch them rehearse fast enough. The troupe – Mcfly’s Harry Judd, EX-TOWIE star Elliott Wright, Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden, Olympic swimmer Mark Foster, ballet dancer Wayne Sleep, TV presenter Dom Littlewood and actors Alexander Armstrong and Danny John Jules – didn’t just fling their fellas about for fun, mind, they’ve done it to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer. It’s a very worthy cause, and one that all the boys can relate to personally. Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, who’s in charge of choreography, tells heat, “Everything about this project just screamed yes to me. It takes huge – excuse the pun – balls to come on and do it, and I’ve got nothing but respect for these lads.” This documentary follows the team from their first cringetastic dance solo right through to their big reveal onstage in front of 2,000 people, and it’s a total joy. You’ll laugh, you’ll wince, you’ll cry and, most importantly of all, you’ll hopefully turn to the bloke closest to you and begin that all-important chat about checking his bits. Go on, do it for all those brave bare bottoms!
