Mel begs Simon for money

She’s hoping Mr Cowell can help her out

- KELLY ALLEN

After a messy and high-profile split from husband Stephen Belafonte, Mel B is in such a financial mess that she’s had to beg her famous friends, including her boss Simon Cowell, to help her out.

The former Spice Girl has just been ordered to pay her ex – who claims to be a movie producer, but has hardly worked in the ten years he was with Mel – a whopping £30k a month to cover his living costs, as well as a lump sum of £106k to cover legal and forensic fees.

Now the 42 year old has told friends that she’s terrified she’s going to end up homeless, as she can’t afford her rent after blowing her £38m fortune – leaving her with just £961 in one of her bank accounts. “Mel is a complete wreck right now,” an insider tells heat. “She’s renting a home for her and the kids, but it’s already a struggle to pay for. She’s crying to friends that she’ll be homeless in a matter of weeks if a miracle doesn’t happen. She’s hoping someone lets her stay in one of their homes.”

The insider adds, “She’s been speaking to Simon Cowell [who she is currently on America’s Got Talent with], Sharon Osbourne [her X Factor judging-panel mate] and [her other AGT co-judge] Heidi Klum about cash or advice on quick money-making schemes. Mel is actually considering a reality show that would deal with her and her kids bouncing back from the nasty split.”

However, the star – who has three daughters, Phoenix, 18, Angel, ten, and five-year-old Madison – is refusing to curb her lifestyle. “Since her divorce got nasty, Mel hasn’t been shy about spending money,” our source says. “She’s still treating friends and colleagues to lavish dinners at restaurants, and when she travels, it’s always first class or private jet, and she stays in luxury accommodation.” Even the judge handling Mel and Stephen’s court case criticised them both for “living beyond their means”.

After their split was announced in March, Mel accused Stephen of subjecting her to ten years of emotional and physical abuse, and is asking her law yers to use this to ensure she won’t have to pay spousal support. However, Stephen has hit back and demanded she provide evidence in court to prove all her allegations.

“Mel can veer between crying over the financial mess she’s in to swearing to friends that she’s going to bounce back,” adds our insider. “But no one is sure how or when Mel will pull herself out of this mess.”
