Love Island might be over, but the competition’s far from done, with Kember racing Chris and Olivia to be first at the altar

Who will be the first couple to cash in and get hitched?

We may be sobbing into our Muggy Mike coffee mugs now that Love Island has finished, but worry not: the competition may be over, but the race has only just begun. The race down the aisle, that is.

Fresh from their victory, Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay have wasted no time in discussing marriage. In an interview last week, the show’s winners both insisted they were in it for the long haul. “When I look at my relationship with Amber, I look at it as something there’s no end to. It can go all the way,” Kem, 21, revealed. His 20-year-old girlfriend added, “Yeah, me too, 100 per cent.” This followed Kem’s confession to Caroline Flack during the live final that he had most definitely found his “future wife”.

According to PR guru Mark Borkowski, who runs Borkowski PR, while Kem and Amber are currently hot property, they only have a very small window of opportunity to “carry forward interest in them as a brand” – and marriage is the obvious cash cow (sorry, we mean fairy-tale happy ending.)

But Kember aren’t the only ones in the running – let’s not forget Kem’s other soulmate (and supposed best man), Chris Hughes and his girlfriend Olivia Attwood. Despite being on and off more than a Love Island condom, the pair have been rock solid since coming third – and Liv, 26, has declared she’s a changed woman since coupling up with Chris, 24. When heat met them last week, and brought up their fake baby, Cash Hughes, who became a national icon when he featured on the show, both agreed he was the precursor to the real deal. “If we have a baby, we’ll definitely call it Cash, that’s one of the baby names I’ve always wanted,” Olivia told us, with Chris adding, “Yeah, can’t wait.”

“It’s absolutely a race up the aisle,” Mark tells us. “Can you think of the sort of money involved? They’ll have the wedding to end all weddings, selling every type of media and streaming rights to the do. Both couples shouldn’t waste any time, because they could be divorced

‘They shouldn’t waste time, as they could divorce next year’

in a year and then they can make money out of that. At this point, their agents will definitely be pushing them as a brand, because they’re far better together.”

Crucially, it all rests on who will be the first Islanders to say “I do”, and the deadline is looming. Last year’s runners-up, Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen, are already engaged, and they’re gearing up for a wedding in September 2018. If our sweethearts want to be the first to say “I do” (and seriously, who’s interested in second place?) they’re going to have to act quickly – even by their standards.
