COLD FEET’S BACK!

So, naturally, heat simply had to pop along to the set and meet everyone…

Since the pilot was broadcast in March 1997, Cold Feet has been a big part of our TV landscape. It returned last year after a break of 13 years to huge audiences and critical acclaim, so it’s no exaggeration to say heat is more than teensy bit excited to be sitting in Karen’s actual kitchen in the posh Manchester suburb of Didsbury awaiting the arrival of the cast. Then in strolls James Nesbitt (Adam), John Thomson (Pete) and Robert Bathurst (David), and it feels like we’re suddenly in a scene from the show. Add Fay Ripley (Jenny) and Hermione Norris (Karen) to the mix and the gang’s all here. Having worked together for over 20 years, the cast are all firm friends. Or, as Fay puts it, “Basically, it’s family – warts and all.” SAUCY SCENES So, how did it feel for the sixth series to be so warmly received? “Incredible,” says Hermione, who admits she was initially reticent about bringing the show back. “People were genuinely delighted.” And having played their characters for so long, how much of their own personalities do they bring to the show? “Karen looks like me,” says Hermione, laughing. Fay’s input however, is a bit saucier. “Every bedroom scene I have with Pete has a comedy element – that comes from me,” she explains. “The writers say, ‘She’s not going to do it in a bra, but she might do it in a cowboy outfit.’ And there’s a little bit of dressy-up titillation to come – but not in a cowboy outfit. Let’s be clear on that.” A MEMORABLE OPENING Apart from some bedroom action, what else can we expect this season? “The storylines were very strong in the last series, so don’t expect such high-impact drama this time,” says John. James raises one of his famous eyebrows and quips, “Yeah, Adam goes to the Moon.” David, on the other hand, is still on his uppers, living with Adam and struggling to find work. “He got himself into a few scrapes last series, and he’s at it again,” laughs Robert. “The opening scene won’t disappoint,” continues James. “Remember when Cold

Feet first started it was really innovative?” Having seen the first episode, heat can confirm James is right – it’s pretty special. THE ALL-NEW SELFIE What we really want to know is who’s the biggest diva? Hermione’s quick to answer, “Fay!” Before saying, “No, if there is a diva, it’s Jimmy. Oh no, I’m going to get in trouble.” She’s joking. We think. As the cast are often out in Manchester, do they get pestered for selfies? John pipes up, “One person is a selfie, two people is an us-sie and more than two is a we-sie – I’ve been flogging this for ages.” Robert, without missing a beat, then says drily, “But it hasn’t taken off yet, has it?” It’s time to leave our Cold Feet bubble, but not before we get an “us-sie” of our own. We’re still not sure it’s going to take off any time soon, though. Sorry, John…
