Gemma: ‘Those stairs scare me most’
While most Strictly stars are terrified about the dance floor, for Gemma Atkinson, it’s the post-dance run up the stairs causing her anxiety.
The Key 103 DJ says, “It’s when the dance is all finished and you run up those steps and the camera’s on you. I’m not bothered about them looking down my top – they’ve seen it all before – but the stairs worry me more than the actual dance.”
The 32-year-old fitness fanatic, who does some serious weight lifting, says that, despite feeling fit and well, she hasn’t been too comfortable in her skimpy costumes. “I don’t feel sexy at all,” she tells us. “I feel hotter in my jogging bottoms. Everyone thinks that once you get your outfit on, you’re a dancer, but it’s not like that.”
She adds that she’s “trying to eat healthier” ahead of the live shows. “I want to have more energy and I’m aware that if I eat crap food, then I’ll feel like crap,” she says. “But because we’re training so much, we’re hungry. I had a burger last night and a couple of beers.”
