What?

Millions were beguiled by Jessie Burton’s 2014 tale of forbidden passion. In 17th-century Amsterdam, 18-year-old Nella marries rich merchant Johannes, but finds him strangely distant. Left with just a doll house-style replica of their home and Johannes’ moody sister for company, Nella discovers the Miniaturist, a mysterious artist who furnishes the replica house with tiny, and eerily prescient, creations.

Who? The Witch’s Anya Taylorjoy plays Nella, with Suffragette’s Romola Garai as her sister-in-law.

When? The three-parter airs on BBC this autumn.
