We can count on one hand how many times we’ve heard from Cheryl since she gave birth in March – and, oh, how we’ve missed her. But last week, the Geordie star finally spoke about life as a new mum to baby Bear and her “dreamland” at home with boyfriend Liam Payne.

“I’m still adapting in some ways. I just feel differently about most things, to be honest – my views have changed,” she told Vogue magazine to promote her L’oréal make-up range. “Firstly, you see the fear in everything, like sharp edges. Your whole being changes because it’s not about you any more. If something happens to you, it doesn’t matter as much, but if it happened to your child, the impact would be severe.” In fact, she’s already concerned about Bear’s future, as she revealed, “I do worry about where social media will be headed by the time he’s old enough to have it. It’s scary. I’m so glad I didn’t have it when I was growing up.”

Cheryl, 34, also admits family life has been intense, saying, “I think I went to a dreamland. It’s just me, Liam and the baby rocking around 24/7, so you don’t have one second to yourself really.”

Last week, Liam, 24, called his girlfriend “the best mum in the world,” and it certainly sounds like she’s been hands-on. Cheryl revealed, “Bear naps maybe two or three times a day and, in that time he’s napping, you’re doing all the other stuff that needs to be done,

like washing up and cleaning his clothes. So you don’t really have time for yourself.”

And in a recent TV interview to publicise her appearance on The X Factor, Cheryl continued to open up, revealing the real reason for her extended break from the public eye. “I didn’t stop for 14 years, and then when I got pregnant, I thought, ‘Right, I don’t need this stress.’ So I relaxed,” she said. “It’s been over a year, but it’s been perfect as it’s reset the mindframe.” She also candidly revealed, “I hated being pregnant. A lot of stuff went on and I just didn’t enjoy it.”

Much has been made of son Bear’s unusual name, and the singer confesses it was her choice rather than Liam’s, saying, “We give birth to them and I think it’s only fair. But we did have a discussion, like, lengthy – he didn’t have a name for seven weeks!” And she went on to explain her inspiration, saying, “The midwife always used to come in when he was little. He used to grunt and the midwife used to go, ‘There’s the little bear’.”

And, while Cheryl appears to have snapped back into shape, she says it “didn’t feel like that” for her. “My whole body changed naturally. But everyone in my family is fortunate like that – my mother put on her jeans the week after she had me in the hospital. But for me, after three months, I started working out one hour a day.”

And even then, Bear’s not far from her side, with Cheryl saying, “[Personal trainer] Tracy Anderson has a streaming service and it’s heaven-sent. I have a space in my house where I heat up the room and then just stream it.”

Now her son is seven months old, Cheryl’s returning to her first love – music. “I now love music more than I ever did,” she says. “The baby loves music, too. I played it throughout my pregnancy. So, back to the grind, back to pop-star life, back to recording. It’s all fun again.”

And what about a sibling for Bear? “I have no plans for two at the moment, but I think maybe one day. It’s so lovely. I’ve had the best six months of my life.”
