Liam and Miley are working it out at couples’ therapy
The couple are all about self-improvement these days – and it’s paying off
They gave their on/off relationship another go after three years apart. Now, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth – who reunited at the end of 2015 – are rocking serious #couplegoals, with recent pictures of them on the beach in Malibu suggesting they’re more loved-up than ever before. The reason? A healthy dose of couples’ counselling.
“They’ve broken up before and don’t want to go down that road again,” an insider close to the couple tells heat. “When issues started arising, they decided to see a therapist. They figured it was a good idea to get their grievances out in the open and have them analysed by a professional, especially since they’re still planning on getting married. They’ve only had a few sessions, but Miley’s already telling her family that she feels like they’ve grown so much.”
According to our insider, Miley, 24, and Liam, 27 – who first got together in 2009, then split in 2013 – are keen to ensure that they’re more open and upfront about their issues after both admitting in the past they broke up after going in “different directions”.
“Both are prone to jealousy – Miley struggles with the idea of Liam being away on movie sets, while he thinks she can be a ‘huge flirt’ around her many guy friends,” our source tells us. “Their old way to handle things would be to get passive aggressive, but they’re learning new patterns.”
Apparently, the couple have been working hard to understand each other better by “switching roles”. Our insider says, “Miley pretends to be Liam and lists off all the things she thinks he might be upset about and why, and then he does the same thing in reverse. It’s been a great exercise for them because it’s helped them see each other’s perspective.”
And finally, what’s selfimprovement without a little bit of journaling? Our source says, “They’ve been told to keep an emotional journal. Miley is very excited about this because Liam has a tendency to shut down, but now he’s actually opening up.”
If recent appearances are any indication, the hard work is paying off, as the pair seem happy and relaxed. And we can’t wait for a wedding – if only to see the Hemsworth bros lined up in their tuxes.
