Geri: ‘I’ll be a Lady first!’
She reckons she’ll soon be the poshest Spice
In the ’90s, they were all about Girl Power, but these days, the former members of the Spice Girls are more about Girl Competition – especially when it comes to fancy titles. Geri Horner has told friends she’s desperate for her husband Christian to get a knighthood, so she can be a Lady – and she wants it before Victoria can bag one for David.
“Geri is determined to beat Posh in the race to becoming a Lady,” says an insider close to the singer, 45, who married former racing driver Christian, 43, in 2015. “Both their husbands are in the running for a knighthood, and even back in the band days, they always had a bit of a love/hate competitive rivalry in their relationship. Geri always wants to go one better than Victoria if she can.”
Back in February, hacked emails showed former footballer David’s desperate campaign to get a knighthood – and his fury at being overlooked. The source adds, “Geri keeps her and Christian’s image pristine, and she’s sure it’ll be their turn for a title before the Beckhams. A knighthood for Christian would be the icing on the cake and would cement their life together in both private and public. She can’t wait to be Lady Geri.”
Meanwhile, last week Geri spoke openly about getting pregnant with her miracle baby, Monty, who’s now nine months old. “I wanted another baby and I’d tried an assisted route and it didn’t work,” said the singer, who’s also mum to Bluebell, 11. “Then Monty came naturally.”
Hopefully things will work out just as well for her down at the palace… ■
