We sat down with celeb hairstylist Jen Atkin to talk faking a party perfect ’do

She tames the manes of celeb royalty, so when we got the chance to chat to Jen Atkin, ahead of the launch of her new hair extensions line, we were pretty excited. Get ready to fake it like the best of them with her expert tips . . .

Where do you get your inspo?

I really love Gwen Stefani’s ’90s looks. I like how she was always changing her appearance, and hair extensions are perfect for this. When it comes to my clients, though, it’s so specific to the occasion, what they’re wearing and their make-up. Clip-in extensions allow me to really play with hairstyles, as you can be midlength one day and longer the next.

Why are hair extensions so good for party season?

For my clients, they’re so useful because hair photographs smaller in pictures than in real life, so they can instantly make it look fuller.

Who do they work best on?

I think you see the most dramatic difference with girls with fine hair, but extensions are amazing because they mean you can basically have the hair that you want whatever your hair type.

Hair extensions have gotten a bad rep in the past – how can people avoid this?

I just think the quality of hair is much better these days. For me, it was really important to create a hair extension that had a root and then highlights and lowlights, so that they disappear into the hair for a natural finish.
