Charlotte Crosby speaks exclusively to heat about her corrective breast surgery

Charlotte Crosby opens up to heat about why she’s had breast surgery

Charlotte Crosby has had to develop a pretty thick skin when it comes to social media. Whether it’s her lips (“You look like Daffy Duck”) or the nose job she had last year (“It’s botched AF”) – she’s always tried to ignore the negative comments. But it’s not been easy. And since revealing she’s suffered from a medical condition called “congenital symmastia” since birth (she admitted, “My uniboob makes me feel under-confident”), the 27-year-old former Geordie Shore star’s found the trolling harder to ignore. In an exclusive interview she tells heat that after much research, early last month she underwent a three-hour operation to correct her breast “deformity”. The only reason she’s speaking about it now is because she’s found out someone had leaked the story to the press. And people have been commenting on her social media (“You’ve clearly had a boob job”). Now she wants to set the record straight and explain why...

How are you?

I’m still in a bit of pain, but they’re healing OK.

Tell us about your op – why did you have it done?

It really limited what I could wear without people saying, “What the fuck’s wrong with her boobs?” and it got to the point in my life where I was thinking, “Should I just get it done? I’m young, I wish I had a body where I can wear different clothes.”

Did you compare your body to your mates’?

Yes, because when people like Sophie [Kasaei] go out, they can wear tops that show their cleavage. I didn’t want to always have to wear high necks so you couldn’t see the middle of my boobs. Even when I wore a bikini on holiday I had to get ones that covered the middle bit, otherwise it looked weird in pictures.

Did people say nasty things about them?

Well, because I’m famous, if a picture of me is online, people say things like, “What is wrong with her boobs? They’re deformed! They’re stuck together!” And everyone just says really bad things. So I thought it’s either now or never. I just wanted to get it done.

Did the trolls upset you?

‘I didn’t want to have to wear high necks to hide the middle of my boobs’

It didn’t upset me that much, but I really wanted to be able to wear different clothes. I would always look at other girls’ boobs and say, “I wished mine looked like that.”

Is that the real reason you got it done?

Yes, I did it because of the

comments I got online about my boobs. People would say, “What’s wrong with her boobs?”

Was it a scary operation?

I’d done a lot of research into it, and it was a complex operation because it’s congenital symmastia – that’s the medical term, meaning I was born with it so it was harder to treat. Normally it’s caused by something like a boob job gone wrong, but because I’ve never had a boob job or implants and I was born with it,

it makes it harder to get rid of.

How did you find the doctor?

I’ve been told Dr Frati is the best person to do boobs in London, so I went with him.

What does the procedure entail?

They had to go under the boobs and under the tissue and put sutures – which are internal stitches – on to the tissue of the breast bone, so that it sticks the skin flat to the breast bone instead of it sticking out. They have to get right under the boob to remove the tissue. Because I have symmastia, that means my boob tissue runs all in one line under both boobs, which is why there’s no separation. They have to go right into the boobs to separate both sections off. It means I’ll have a wider scar.

Were you worried about the op and how long did it take?

I was more excited thinking that it was going to be changed and I’d look better. It didn’t take long – about two or three hours.

Who was with you when you got it done?

Stephen [Bear – her now ex- boyfriend] was with me.

What did he think about your boobs?

He hated the fact that I wanted it done. He didn’t want me to get it done and kept saying he thought my boobs were perfect, but I was never going to listen to him.

How do you feel about them now?

Because they’ve all been stitched up underneath, it’s changed the shape of my boobs a bit. I already had big boobs, but now it’s kind of given them a lift, which is nice.

How would you rate your body?

I used to rate my boobs about

a seven out of ten, it was just the middle bit I didn’t like. But now they’re definitely a ten.

You were away with the girls last week – how did you feel in a swimsuit?

I felt so good on the beach. If I want to post a picture now, I have nothing to worry about.

Do you think you will still get stick on social media?

Yes. I sometimes get so much hate on Instagram, and there have been loads of articles saying I look like Michael Jackson. But it’s just

the same old stuff. There’s only so many times you can be bothered by it. I also get huge support on social media, which is a massive comfort.

Will you get more surgery?

[Laughs.] Who knows? I always say I don’t like my forehead because it looks like Ant from Ant & Dec, and I saw Maria Fowler had a hair transplant to lower her hairline… which I might consider. But when I’m older, I’ll definitely get a facelift – look how good Sharon Osbourne looks. She looks fantastic!
