An intriguing two-part documentary series exploring what it’s like to serve a long-term prison sentence in Britain. Filmed over a year, with full and extraordinary access to jails, including HMP Shotts, Scotland’s only prison exclusively for long-term offenders, the programme features men convicted of murder and serving mandatory life sentences. This first episode follows one prisoner who hopes to be released after 34 years inside and is spending time in more open surroundings. But some prisoners aren’t that happy about the prospect of getting out of jail, fearing what it will be like adjusting to everyday life in modern Britain. ★★★★ Liam Wright
Serial Killer With Piers Morgan ITV, THURSDAY 16 NOVEMBER, 9PM
Having interviewed a bunch of female murderers in his Killer Women series, Piers now turns his attention to a male serial killer. He enters Florida’s maximum security Blackwater Prison to interview one of America’s most vicious killers, Mark Reibe, who previously confessed to the abduction and murder of 13 young women, only to withdraw that confession. Reibe is serving life for the murder of one woman, but police are convinced he killed many more. And so is Piers, who goes to town on Reibe in a tense interview that leads to the killer ripping off his microphone and storming off. ★★★★ Jason Arnopp
