The BBC passed on making this sequel to their steamy 2013 period saga The
White Queen, despite the fact that it gained respectable viewing figures – but US company Starz stepped up to the plate instead. Based on Philippa Gregory’s novel of the same name,
TWP starts as the War Of The Roses ends, and a new generation rises to the throne. When the former king, Richard III, gets defeated at the Battle Of Bosworth, Henry Tudor (Jacob Collins-levy) finds himself set to become King Henry VII. He also marries Elizabeth (Jodie Comer), a princess from a rival house and the former lover of Richard III. Rest assured that swords will glint in the sun during this opening double-bill, and bodices will be ripped. Jason Arnopp
