Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement is actually happening, and we’ve got all the details

Get ready for Princess Meghan…

-

It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for – at the time of heat going to press, the world was on tenterhooks waiting for confirmation that Prince Harry is set to announce his engagement to Meghan Markle (you might even know by now). And we’re told that everyone’s favourite royal actually proposed to the American actress a few months ago, but it has been kept under wraps until now.

“Harry wanted them both to enjoy their engagement without everyone else knowing for a while,” heat’s insider says. “It was very low-key, but Harry made sure it was romantic and fairy tale. They know that once an announcement has been made, all eyes will be on them, so they were keen to avoid that for as long as possible.”

They also had to deal with the practicalities, as they wanted to get their new life sorted before making everything official. “Meghan has only just quit her role in [US drama]

Suits. She had a lot to sort out – she was living in Canada and had to move her life over to London, including her dogs, and they didn’t want any added stress,” the source says, adding, “And, of course, they have to get the Queen’s permission before any announcement is made and make sure the timing is right for the royal family.”

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, started dating last year, and after being pictured at a few events, whispers were that the party prince had finally been tamed.

Now that a wedding is imminent, they can actually start planning.

As heat has reported, there are royal protocols to follow, but because Harry is not an heir, they won’t be as strict as the ones at Kate and William’s wedding in 2011. However, with Kate and Wills expecting baby number three in April, it’s thought a wedding before then is unlikely, as they won’t want the two events to clash.

“A late summer wedding is looking favourite at the moment, but obviously there will need to be a lot of planning,” our source says. “It will be the wedding of the year... then the speculation will start on when they’ll have a baby.”

Sigh. We do love a real-life fairy tale.n
