Kate: ‘Rio’s kids can plan my wedding’
It really will be a family affair
If there’s one couple we’re rooting for in the New Year more than any other, it’s Rio Ferdinand and Kate Wright. The former footballer has had a heartbreaking few years after losing his wife and then his mum to cancer, but 2018 looks set to bring him happiness, as insiders tell heat that he and Kate are set to get married. “Kate and Rio are so in love and want to prove that to everyone with a wedding,” says a source close to the loved-up couple, who have been dating for a year. “Everyone’s expecting a proposal over New Year, followed by a summer wedding. ‘She’s not trying to replace their mum’
– and Rio’s three children adore Kate. He’s been so impressed with how she’s been with the kids and their happiness is the most important thing to both of them.”
Over the summer, Kate, 26, confirmed she was quitting her reality career on TOWIE to focus on becoming a stepmum to Rio’s children, Lorenz, 11, Tate, nine, and Tia, six, saying at the time, “My priority right now is Rio and the family.” And in October, Rio, 39, admitted, “I’m really happy now,” after Kate moved in with them.
And the wedding will be a proper family affair, as Kate wants to make sure the children – who lost their mum in 2015 – feel involved. The insider adds, “Kate can’t wait to get married and knows Rio is The One. It’s not been easy, but getting engaged would be the dream for her. The kids would obviously be involved with the wedding, with Tia being a bridesmaid and the boys being ushers or ring bearers.
“She wants them all to be a family. She’s not trying to replace their mum, but she wants them to know she’s there for them at all times and it’s one of the reasons Rio loves her so much.”
