Fresh start #1: Pregnant Coleen Rooney is hoping a baby girl will keep husband Wayne out of trouble
She thinks a daughter may help calm her husband down a bit…
To say it’s been a testing few months for Coleen Rooney would be an understatement. But as she heads into 2018, the WAG is determined for a fresh start – which will coincide with the arrival of her and husband Wayne’s fourth baby. We’re told they are convinced Coleen is having a little girl and, after three boys, she’s hoping a daughter may change Wayne for the better, even though she concedes their relationship may never fully recover from his recent bad behaviour.
“Family means everything to Coleen and keeping them together is her priority,” says an insider close to the childhood sweethearts, who’ve been married nine years and have three sons, Kai, eight, Klay, four, and 23-month-old Kit. “She and Wayne are trying to look ahead to the new baby coming – they both think it’s a girl, and they’re really excited. Coleen thinks a girl may calm Wayne down a bit. He’s always told friends he would love a daughter, and all his mates who have girls say how different it is. It’s possible a girl may bring out more of his sensitive side.”
This comes after Coleen, 31, publicly revealed she had forgiven Wayne, 32, after he was arrested for drink-driving Laura Simpson – a woman he’d just met in a club – to her house. But we’re told it’s not been forgotten. “It’s going to take a lot for them to fully recover from this, if they ever do,” the source says. “Coleen’s told Wayne that things may never be the same between them.”
The incident reportedly put the couple on the verge of divorce, as Laura later claimed they had “kissed and cuddled” and Coleen took an extended holiday in Barbados without Wayne. She later posted on Facebook about his “silly and selfish” behaviour, adding that it had been “a shit time”, and she “thought my marriage might have been at an end”.
It’s not the first time the couple have weathered a cheating scandal. Back in 2004, it emerged that the former England footballer had been sleeping with prostitutes, including a grandmother (charmingly) known as “Auld Slapper”. In 2010, more stories about escorts hit the headlines, this time while Coleen, 31, was pregnant with eldest son Kai.
“However hurt Coleen has been, she knows staying together is what is right for her and her family,” our insider continues. “She’s just hoping the new baby will mean a positive outcome for them.”
