Fresh start #3: Kim Kardashian may be set to welcome baby number three, but she’s ready to go solo without Kanye if necessary
The couple are bonding over their new baby – but will it last?
If we know nothing else about 2018, we know there will be Kardashian drama. And Kim and Kanye West are starting early, as they vow to move past their recent marriage problems and focus on the arrival of their new baby. But, while things seem to be back on track for the pair, friends say that Kim has also admitted she’s ready to go it alone as a single mum if she has to.
“Kim and Kanye are so incredibly excited about this child,” says an insider close to the pair, who are already parents to North, four, and Saint, two, and are expecting their third baby via a surrogate any day now. “It’s been a hard year for them as a couple, but this pregnancy has been one undeniably bright spot. The fact that they have another child on the way and Kim’s health hasn’t suffered has been a huge boost to their relationship.”
It’s been a roller-coaster year for the couple, who’ve dealt with Kim, 37, being robbed at gunpoint in Paris, and Kanye, 40, being hospitalised following a breakdown – and friends say they’re now finally ready to focus on each other. “After what Kim went through in Paris, she doesn’t take anything for granted any more,” says the source. “Coming so close to death made her re-evaluate everything. Then Kanye’s mental ill health issues tested their marriage even more. But they got through it and Kim is very hopeful that this new baby will reignite the passion in their marriage. And so far it’s doing wonders for them. Kanye is so much more present these days. He’s very engaged with Kim and the kids and he’s said that he wants to be a more hands-on dad. He’s been practising his nappy changing skills and has just finished the nursery, which he designed from top to bottom. He got major brownie points for that one – it meant a lot to Kim that he’d take that kind of time and care. ”
But friends say Kim also has a contingency plan ready if things don’t the way she’d like. We’re told, “It hasn’t been an easy year for them and there are still a lot of issues to sort out. Kim really wants the marriage to work, but she also knows she’ll cope fine if it doesn’t. She doesn’t need Kanye, and if they can’t make their marriage work, they’ll still raise the kids together and be in each other’s lives. Being on her own doesn’t scare her like it used to. They’re in a really good place right now, and both have a lot of hope for 2018.” ■
