Childhood sweethearts confirm their engagement
He writes the world’s most romantic songs so we’re not surprised girlfriend Cherry Seaborn was more than happy to say “yes” when Ed Sheeran popped the question.
The 26-year-old singer posted a picture to his Instagram last week of the couple snuggled up, with the caption, “Got myself a fiancée just before New Year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well.”
The childhood friends first met at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk, but only became romantically involved years later. After leaving school, Cherry attended Duke University in North Carolina, and the couple began dating in mid-2015 while she was still in the US. When the relationship developed into something more serious, Cherry returned to join Ed in the UK.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted Ed and Cherry celebrating their first anniversary in an Instagram posted by Taylor Swift back in 2016, while the famous friends were enjoying a 4 July party at Tay-tay’s house.
At the beginning of 2017, Ed spoke about his feelings for Cherry, saying, “This has been the first time I’ve ever actually had the time to fall in love properly. I’m really secure now, we live together and we have cats, and I think when you have cats that’s kind of it.”
Ed famously showed off his dedication to his girlfriend after the 2017 BRITS when he gallantly gave Cherry his trainers and carried her heels to the car for her. Husband goals, or what? Cherry later repaid the favour by helping him brush his teeth after he fell off his bike on the way to the pub and broke both arms. That’s true love.
Not long after announcing his engagement, it was revealed that Ed had bought four adjacent properties in a Suffolk village, with plans to create his own country estate for him and Cherry – along with the cats, of course. Locals have even dubbed the hamlet, Sheeran-ville. His current lavish house already has an underground private pub.
“Basically, there’s an underground tunnel to get there that you can close off,” he has said. “So, if I have a party, everyone goes in the pub and no one can get in the house, so you get no one raiding the cupboards or smashing anything. You have to go underground to get to the pub.”
Fans may be upset to hear it might not be long before Ed’s music career has to make way for the pitter-patter of little redheads. He’s said he wants babies in the next few years and admitted, “My ambition is going to go to zero as soon as I have kids. I am going to be like, ‘I do not really care any more, as I have another life to take care of.’” n
