Mel b: ‘My reality show will shock everyone’

The singer is ready to reveal her serious side

-

Melanie Brown has been many things: Spice Girl, talent show judge and tabloid darling. But now she’s set to take on a much more serious role, as an advocate for women’s rights. Friends say the singer is pitching a reality show to networks where she’ll meet survivors of domestic abuse – and she’s not going to shy away from telling her own story.

“Mel is still all about Girl Power. “She wants the show to be uplifting and feature other strong survivors,” says an insider close to the mum-of-three. Mel, 42, cited “emotional and physical abuse” when she filed for divorce from husband of ten years, Stephen Belafonte last March, and the insider adds, “She thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to make some extra money, as well as giving back by letting women know it’s never too late to leave a troubled relationship. There’s even a working title – Mel B: Moving On.”

The singer has been on a mission these past few weeks to show the world she’s over her divorce, which was finalised in December. And that’s included cutting out (rather than laser removal) of a rib tattoo featuring Stephen’s name. “I wanted to close the final chapter on a toxic relationship,” she said, “Even though I’ve taken the steps to remove Stephen’s name from my body, the domestic abuse will forever remain with me.” Our insider adds, “Mel is in a really good place and is stronger than ever. She feels as though she’s been given a second chance and she doesn’t want to waste a single minute of it.”
