Harry’s fiancée wants to explore the UK
While Meghan Markle is already getting to know the UK when she accompanies Prince Harry on official engagements, it seems that’s not enough for the future princess. We’re told the US actress is said to be keen to explore her adopted country a little better – on days out that don’t include shaking hands with dignitaries.
“Meghan has created a bucket list of places she wants to visit and exceedingly British things she’d like to try,” an insider tells us. “She is very much a free spirit and can’t wait to go exploring with Harry. They are trying to keep it very low-key, but it’s not exactly going to be easy for them to go incognito.”
Friends say Meghan wants to do a road trip around iconic places like Stonehenge, Shakespeare’s birthplace, and the White Cliffs of Dover. And, as an actress, she also wants to see filming locations such as the Harry Potter castle in Alnwick, Highclere Castle – where Downton Abbey was filmed – and Sherwood Forest. However, although our insider says the dream would be to just head off in a camper van, she realises that won’t necessarily be possible.
So for now, his Suits star is focusing on some more achievable goals within London. “Harry has promised to take her for a spin on the London Eye,” our insider says. “As well as having a curry on London’s Brick Lane, he’ll treat her to fish and chips, plus roast beef with Yorkshire pudding.”
Ever the romantic, Harry is said to be keen to take Meghan to the Royal Ballet and the Natural History Museum for a private viewing. And in what would be a very emotional trip, insiders say he’d like to take his fiancée to Althorp House, where his late mum Princess Diana is buried. “Harry chokes up just talking about it,” our source says.
The couple are living in Nottingham Cottage, in the grounds of Kensington Palace. Harry has apparently turned the former “man cave” into a “cute cottage with feminine touches”. And on cosy nights in, he’s been introducing Meghan to the delights of British TV. “Meghan’s been watching Eastenders, Corrie and
Celebrity Big Brother. She’s also been trying to pick up the accent,” says our source. “She’s been copying Harry and has even learnt a few of his favourite swear words.”
