Eugenie chases Meghan up the aisle
Get your hat, there’s another royal do
This may be the year of Meghan, but Princess Eugenie isn’t letting her have ALL the limelight, as last week she announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank.
The wedding will take place in autumn this year at St George’s Chapel, Windsor – yes, the same chapel in which Meghan and Harry will also be getting hitched. Jack, 31, and Eugenie, 27, are believed to have met back in 2010 while on a skiing holiday in Switzerland, and got engaged in early January while on holiday in Nicaragua.
“I found a ring in a jeweller’s and then proposed to Eugenie without it, and came back and we designed the diamonds around this padparadscha sapphire,” said Jack, who’s brand ambassador for a tequila company. “It changes colour from every different angle that you look at it, which is what I think of Eugenie. That she changes colour and is just so amazing.”
How, er, sweet. Eugenie said of the proposal, “I was over the moon. [It was a] complete surprise. But it was the perfect moment. We couldn’t be happier.”
Other members of the royal family were also overjoyed. Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, was beside herself, hitting social media to spam our timelines with gushy posts. She wrote, “I always say that the river flows well to its destiny because of the guidance of a solid rock”. Rumours that she is the solid rock are unconfirmed.
But most importantly, one VIP guest gave her seal of approval. “Granny was very happy,” Eugenie told reporters.
