After winning Celebrity Big Brother, Shane Jenek – aka drag queen Courtney Act has got his sights set on conquering the UK. And with his SBF (straight best friend) Andrew Brady at his side, we reckon he can rule the world…
Hi, Shane. How are you today?
A little lacking in sleep, but it was self-induced. I would like to blame work, but the other night, I caught up with Andrew for the first time since the show and it ended in tequila shots…
What’s the reaction been like since you won CBB?
It’s been so positive. I can’t even put into words how magical it is for everybody to love you because you were yourself.
What’s the future for Shandrew?
I know for sure that Andrew and I will be seeing as much of each other as possible. We’re messaging all the time.
Will Betty Swollocks [Andrew’s drag act] be coming back?
Here’s the controversy: Betty Swollocks is booked to appear at Porn Idol [at London club G-A-Y] in February, but I’m in Australia! So I’m like, “I don’t want you bringing my good name into disrepute.” I’m sending him my wigs and a make-up tutorial... Wait, I should do a make-up tutorial with him! I’m writing that down. I have an actual “Shandrew” list on my phone.
What do you hope your relationship with Andrew has taught people?
That if you feel something, you should lean into it, even if it’s uncomfortable, and not to worry what other people think. We were both devastated to say goodbye, but he got me a little teddy that I’ve called Brady, so that I’d have a little part of him wherever I go.
What’s next for you?
Right now, I’m looking at television stuff in the UK. Out of all of the audiences in the world, the UK just get it. They have a totally different relationship to drag, gender and sexuality.
Finally, how excited were you by the Spice Girls reunion news?
I don’t want to say that I had anything to do with it, but it is really suspect that, on the day I won
CBB, they reformed.
