While years of public snubs and failed attempts to reform may have convinced us that the Spice Girls would never get back together, Instagram went crazy last week over pictures of the OG girl squad locked in loving clinches. Now we hear there’s a world tour in the pipeline... and, shock horror, it’s Victoria Beckham – the band’s most reluctant member – who’s the driving force. Turns out there’s nothing like rumours of husband troubles to reignite girl power.
“There were times when they thought they’d never reunite again, because Vic was so dead against it,” an insider close to the band tells heat. “For her to change her mind like this made the other girls realise that something had massively altered.”
Last month, David Beckham announced he would be moving to Miami to launch his new football club, and as heat has reported, while Victoria, 43, supports his new venture, she’s said to be upset about the fact he will be spending so much time away from their London home.
According to insiders, her worries have given the mum of four an irresistible urge to dust off those Gucci LBDS. “Victoria is still dealing with the shock of a new situation without David around, which is why she’s trying to take charge of her own life and career,” says our source. “Reunion talks have been going on for years, but Vic kept changing her mind. But now she feels that as David has gone off to enjoy himself with his passion project, it’s high time she had some fun, too. She wants to put herself first and really embrace it.”
Meanwhile, we’re told that although Victoria’s top priority is her fashion line, she can also see the benefit in drumming up more self-promotion. “She’s investing heavily in opening stores in the US and China, so if they perform there, it will be a huge bonus for her,” our source tells us. “Vic’s told the girls that she’s on board – but she wants it on her terms. She wants to decide when and where they perform and take charge of all the publicity.”
The demands may be steep, but this is the woman who swore she’d never sing again and has shirked the Spice spotlight, on and off, for two decades, so her former bandmates are only too happy to comply.
