Gwen meets Gavin’s new girlfriend
And it’s all a bit awkward
She famously sang Don’t Speak, so Gwen Stefani must not have been amused by the awkward encounter she found herself in last week – having to make small talk with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale and his new girlfriend. And of course, it was as mortifying as you would expect.
Photographers captured the painful moment in LA, when the No Doubt singer shook hands with model Sophia Thomalla, 28, ahead of a children’s football game. The group shared forced smiles before Gavin and Sophia – who have been dating since last July – took themselves to the other side of the benches to cheer on the former couple’s son, Kingston.
Gwen, 48, and the Bush singer, 52, married in 2002, before splitting in 2016. They share custody of their three children, 11-year-old Kingston, Zuma, nine, and Apollo, three. It was a difficult period for the singer, who has since spoken out about the heartbreak she felt amid allegations that Gavin had been cheating on her with their kids’ nanny.
“For a long time, I just couldn’t understand why I’ve had so much heartache in my life,” she later revealed. “I have parents who are still married and in love. I had such loving role models.”
But happily, she’s since moved on, finding love with her “best friend” and co-judge on The Voice, country singer Blake Shelton. Here’s hoping that, during their brief encounter, Gwen was quick to remind Gavin and Sofia that Blake is People magazine’s reigning “Sexiest Man Alive”. Always worth a mention.
