What it claims: Created by a team of scientists in Australia, the simple swab test will give you a breakdown of seven gene factors, from how you process fats to why you may not feel full after eating. It also looks at your FTO gene, which will give you an insight into whether you’re more or less prone to obesity. The results come in a detailed booklet with an online portal to advise you of portion sizes and which type of diet is most suited to you. It can even offer you a detailed meal plan based on whether you’re looking to lose weight or maintain it. cost: £49, Lloyds Pharmacy (Mydna.life/en-uk/). heat verdict: Production Editor Lisa says, “After just a swab of a cotton bud and a 14-day wait, I received a 22-page document detailing in sometimes-too-scientific detail how my genes were influencing everything from obesity to cholesterol. It was a bit much to take in, so I ended up skipping to the at-a-glance charts, but I was interested to read I had an issue processing fatty acids. I’d suspected that and will now turn to supplements. As well as the analysis, the plan recommends a diet to follow depending on whether you want to lose or maintain weight. Options include low-fat, Mediterranean and higher protein. It also gives optimum calorie counts, a breakdown of how much protein, carbs and fat to have at each meal, as well as recipes. It’s techy, but could prove useful if other diet plans haven’t worked for you.”
