There are few things that would impress the Queen, but going through a secret baptism surely has to be one of them. Meghan Markle was pictured back to royal duties in Birmingham last week, after giving her new gran-in-law the ultimate pre-wedding gift – by swapping Hollywood for holy water.

The 45-minute hush-hush baptism into the Anglican faith was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury last Tuesday evening, with fiancé Prince Harry by her side as water was sprinkled on to Meghan’s head. She was then welcomed into the church.

Insiders say the princess-to-be didn’t have to be baptised, but she was keen to pay the ultimate tribute to the royal family’s religion ahead of her big day. It also means the former

Suits star, 36, who has been married before, will be able to take holy communion on their wedding day on 19 May. Amen to that.
