Vogue beats Pippa in the baby race
That’ll teach Pip for not inviting her to the wedding
Hear ye, hear ye! Ring the bell and pour the Champers, Pippa Middleton is set to be an auntie again! Last week, Spencer Matthews and Vogue Williams revealed they were expecting their first baby, announcing the happy news (which they’ve been keeping mum about since Christmas) in a tell-all interview. But while their announcement drew hearty messages of congratulations from the reality celeb world, there was no doubt some surprise amid the well-wishers. After all, weren’t we all expecting Spencer’s elder brother James Matthews to drop the baby bomb first alongside his wife of ten months, royal sis Pippa? Reality star Spencer, 28, and TV presenter Vogue, 32, have been together for just over a year, after meeting on The Jump in early 2017. They’ve been inseparable ever since, with Spencer declaring himself a changed man after spending his early twenties as the bad-boy Lothario of London’s royal borough. Last month, he proposed to Vogue backstage after a performance of The
Lion King with a £150k ring. Now the couple say they’re “doubly blessed”.
“We were together when we did the test, on holiday in the South of France over Christmas, and we were just like, ‘Wow,’” Vogue revealed, confirming that she’s four months gone. Spencer added, “Regardless of how long you plan it for or how long you’ve wanted it, it’s still like, ‘Oh my God!’ It’s such exciting news.” As for their surprise, he said he was “taken aback by how quickly it had worked” even though “we had already begun to try”. (Biology works in mysterious ways, chaps.)
Now, with a wedding and baby in the offing, the pair are set to formally unite some of the most random supporting characters in the history of showbiz – from ex-westlife crooner Brian Mcfadden to the royal family… yes, that means Kerry Katona also features somewhere on this expansive family tree.
Vogue and Brian were married from 2012 to 2015, giving her plenty of maternal training as stepmum to Brian and Kerry’s two daughters, Mollie and Lilly-sue. Following their split, she said, “I wanted to be married and I wanted to have kids for so long, and now I’m like, ‘What do I do now?’”
So, with a baby on the way and a fiancé to boot, the Irish star seems to have got her happy ending – posting on Instagram that, “Being with you, Spencer, is the best thing that has ever happened to me.” Pippa, James – the ball’s in your court. n Charlotte oliver
