After Joey got ordained online to marry Chandler and Monica in Friends, we all wanted to do it. And global superstar Adele only went and lived our dream. Last week, it was revealed that the Grammy award-winning superstar had got ordained in order to marry her bestie Alan Carr and his partner Paul Drayton.

Back in January, Alan casually announced that he had married party planner Paul in a “small, private ceremony” in Los Angeles. Well, it turns out that was only the half of it. Yes, the couple got married, but he neglected to mention that it was officiated by the biggest female singer on the planet.

Alan and Paul have been together for ten years and got engaged in 2016 while on holiday in Indonesia. Adele, 29, has known the couple for years and was apparently desperate to help plan the wedding. “She did everything… she got ordained and she married us!” Alan said last week. “She is the kindest, sweetest, loveliest person ever. She flew us to Vegas to see Céline Dion sing and she sang our first dance.”

The comedian, 41, remained tightlipped on what the first dance song was, but was happy to divulge about their trip to watch icon Céline, saying, “We’re there in the audience. Great seats, sort of at the back, tucked away. There’s this gay in front [shouting], ‘CÉLINE, CÉLINE! I LOVE YOU, CÉLINE!’ I said to Adele, ‘If he knew Adele was sitting behind him...’ She went, ‘Shall I go and whisper in his ear, “Hello, it’s me”?’ I said, ‘You can’t, he will die!’”

After Alan announced the bizarre tale, Adele herself confirmed her role in their special day by posting a picture on Instagram of her wearing flowing white robes embossed with a gold cross. She captioned the post, “Seeing as the cat’s out the bag. I married two of my best friends in January. You know me, any excuse to dress up... #Loveislove”

The singer is notoriously private and, after having to cancel the final two dates of her tour last year due to illness, she has barely been pictured out in public. Knowing she would be the last person to blow her own trumpet, Alan was particularly keen to publicise her good deed. “I can’t thank her enough. I just want to tell everyone – because she won’t say because she’s so private, but she just… flowers, three-course meal, just all these things and she’d planned it all. It was the best day of my life.”
