Nothing is spookier than a house haunted by your ex
He spent more time living away from their marital pad than in it. But it seems Justin Theroux leaves a lingering scent (we imagine it’s a combo of leather and Kiehl’s) that even Febreze can’t erase. Just four months after he and Jennifer Aniston announced they were separating, and shortly after he was linked to her close friend Emma Stone, the actress has put her Bel Air mansion on the market as she’s haunted by the memory of her estranged husband.
“Jen says the house is full of bad vibes and she’s constantly reminded of Justin,” a source close to the actress tells heat. “She’s even complaining that she can still smell him inside. She’s put it up for sale and wants to move further out to Ojai [in the nearby mountains] and keep a condo in West Hollywood for work purposes.”
Earlier this year, Jen opened the doors to the $49million property for a lavish shoot in Architectural Digest, just before she and Justin announced their split. In the accompanying interview, the 49 year old spoke of the role she had played in designing her dream property, which she bought in 2011. In the piece, she said that she instantly “felt a connection” to the mansion and that, “every corner you turn, you have an experience. Everywhere you look, you get a vista.”
But it’s no surprise that, with the breakdown of their three-year marriage, the vistas have turned sour. The couple actually married at the property in 2015 and in her awkwardly-timed interview, the actress added, “I look around at my husband and my dogs and our home, and there’s nowhere else I want to be.” Ouch.
It’s an open secret that Jen and Justin struggled to find common ground when it came to playing house. While the Bel Air mansion remained their official love nest, Justin was actually based in Manhattan, where he preferred to mingle with the hipster art crowd, while Jen lived full-time in LA. In fact, their failure to agree on which side of the US to live was reportedly a key factor in the breakdown of their relationship. But despite Justin’s absence during that time, Jen is fed up of his lingering presence in her home – especially when she’s got her priorities in order by heading back into the dating scene.
“Jen thinks that no potential boyfriend will want to be in the house she shared with another man,” our source tells us. And can you blame them? We can only imagine the footprint stains Justin’s biker boots left, not to mention the wreckage wrought on the plumbing by all that facial hair.
