Meet your new X Factor panel

Robbie and Ayda have scooped a £10m deal

- CHARLOTTE OLIVER

The world became a darker place earlier this month when X Factor mainstay Louis Walsh announced he would not be returning for this year’s series, saying that, “The show needs a change and I’m ready to leave.” But worry not, Louis lovers, because it’s been reported that the new judging panel will once again entertain you. (See what we did there?) Yes, word is that Simon Cowell has finally managed to sign up Robbie Williams, in a £10million deal, after spending years trying to sway him. And Robbie – being the generous guy he is – is even throwing in his wife Ayda Field as part of the package. Er, thanks?

While nothing’s been confirmed yet, the couple are said to be seriously up for the gig – in the last few years, they’ve developed something of a public double act, with their constant ribbing on social media and regular appearances together on daytime TV. While Ayda, 39, is primarily an actress, we’re sure her years spent mixing in showbiz circles have given her a sharp ear for talent… or at the very least, she’ll up Robbie’s competitive streak, which will only be a good thing.

The rumoured new signings come as it’s been revealed that Nicole Scherzinger will also not be returning as a judge. Sharon Osbourne, meanwhile, will be giving the auditions a miss this year, and will instead be rocking up only for the Live Shows in late 2018. But, once again, fear not, avid fans: she’ll still be pocketing her full £2million pay packet. A masterclass in negotiation.
