Speculation is rife following those divorce rumours
Just days after being forced to deny rumours of an impending divorce, David and Victoria were back doing what they do best – putting on a united front for the cameras. Posing for loved-up snaps at Men’s Fashion Week for David’s Kent and Curwen collaboration show, the couple were keen to show how together they are. Victoria even captioned one of the pictures on Instagram “#momentcaptured”, and days later, David posted a family dinner picture, captioning it, “Amazing… All about families and memories.” But it seems a lot of people aren’t buying it.
“This is all just a show for the cameras, it’s a complete sham,” one commenter wrote. “This marriage is clearly over, but they can’t bear to ruin their brand,” another claimed, while someone else alleged, “It’s obvious that he can’t stand her and she’s clinging on to that marriage for dear life.”
While we’ve heard there are issues between the couple – who will be celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary next month, and have four kids, Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, Cruz, 13, and six-yearold Harper – they have no plans to divorce and want to work through everything together. But, for now, the most important thing is to make sure the public sees how happy they are.
“They still love each other and want their marriage to work,” our insider says. “This is absolutely a real marriage, and of course they are together. A divorce would destroy everything they have been building for the past 20 years – both personally and professionally – as well as their kids’ futures. happy, then they’re fine. If they ever were to divorce, they know they would be destroyed, and their kids would suffer the backlash, too. It’s too much of a risk for them and, of course, they want their marriage to work. Together, they are a power couple with serious clout – they both acknowledge that would disappear. So, it was very important for them to be seen together last week, and prove to the world they are still as strong and nothing will break them up.”
However, Victoria especially was left upset by the rumours – which gathered pace after bookmakers suddenly suspended betting on the pair announcing a divorce – and although we’re told she knows David did nothing wrong, she feels he was partly to blame, as he rarely gushes about her on social media, like she does about him. “Vic felt completely humiliated by all the claims, even though they weren’t true,” our source adds. “She couldn’t help but feel that it all could have been avoided if David had played the game a bit better in the past couple of years, as sometimes it has led to more scrutiny about the state of their marriage. He’s been putting himself first in many aspects of his life, but particularly with his move to Miami, which she can’t help but see as selfish on his part, even if she understands it’s important for his career.”
The insider adds, “Now Vic has taken matters into her own hands and has told David that it needs to be his priority to clear up the mess. She’s made it clear that they need to rectify the damage on all of this and she wants David to make sure he does everything he can to stop speculation about them.”
Over the past 18 months, the Beckhams have endured one of the toughest periods of their relationship. As well as spending lots of time apart due to work – including David setting up a football team in Miami, where he is now based for a lot of the time – they’ve also had to deal with rumours of a bust-up at Glastonbury, leaked emails in which David slagged off the Honours Committee for not giving him a knighthood, and him being pictured on various big nights out. We’re told Victoria is desperate for them to put on a more united front, and would love for David to make more public declarations of his feelings for her, just like he used to. “There was a time when he wouldn’t shut up about how much he loved Vic and was always all over her in public, but now it’s a different story,” our source says. “Vic is forever saying how much she loves and misses him, but he doesn’t acknowledge her in public as much these days, and it can hurt. She knows David loves her, but she would like them to get back to how they were and thinks, with a bit of work, they can.”
And while friends are worried things between the couple are not great, we’re told they will do everything to stay together, especially for the sake of their children. “David sometimes blames himself for moving to Miami, and doing so many things without Vic and leaving her to keep up appearances back home. He knows it’s been hard on her and
he wants to make more of an effort when it comes to spending time with Vic and the family,” another source says. “Their relationship has never felt under so much pressure with the world looking in. It feels as though one of them is going to crack at any minute, but there’s just too much at stake for them to throw their marriage down the drain.
“They’re determined to work through it.”
