Wayne Rooney’s off to the US, so obvs Coleen is worried

They’re facing another tough decision

Wayne Rooney confirmed that he will be joining US football team, DC United in an Instagram post last week. The footballer posted a picture of himself wearing the Washington DC team kit alongside the caption, “The start of a new chapter. Can’t wait to get started.”

The contract is for three and a half years and the deal is said to be worth £10million, making the 32 year old the highest paid player in DC United’s history. He’ll make his debut on 14 July, and Wayne said of the move, “It is fantastic to be joining DC United at such an exciting time in the club’s history with the new stadium opening in just a few weeks. Moving to America and MLS fulfills another career ambition for me.”

However, the news may not be so welcome for wife Coleen – who was pictured looking downcast near their Cheshire home as the announcement was made. The mum of four now faces the difficult choice of whether to uproot her entire family and move to the US. Coleen, 32, only gave birth to the couple’s fourth son, Cass, in February and, with two of their boys at school, it would be a huge upheaval for them.

However, Coleen is sure to be worried about the idea of Wayne living so far away without her, after her trust was broken last year. While Coleen was four months pregnant and on holiday in Majorca, Wayne was arrested for drink-driving while in the car of party girl Laura Simpson.

Coleen eventually reconciled with her husband saying, “A few people are probably thinking I’m stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it’s something I want to try and work on.”

And recently the couple seemed to have been true to their words, as they have been pictured on several family holidays, and both Wayne and Coleen both put up gushing Insta-posts to celebrate their ten-year anniversary last month.

It’s been reported that homebird Coleen – who’s famously close to her own family in Liverpool – is still in two minds about whether she can make a long-distance marriage work or will join her husband in the States. n
