Lily’s shock heroin confession
She admits to being ‘out of control’
There are some celebs who keep frustratingly tightlipped when it comes to their personal lives, leaving us grappling for meaning among their cryptic song lyrics and mega-deep Insta-posts. Then there’s Lily Allen, who we know better than we know ourselves these days, thanks to her recent string of shocking public confessions. And, last week, the 33-year-old Smile singer added to that list when she admitted that she toyed with trying heroin following the breakdown of her marriage two years ago.
Lily, who officially divorced ex-husband Sam Cooper in June of this year, said in an interview that she hit rock bottom after they split up in 2016, confessing, “I was so sick, I said to my therapist, ‘Maybe it is time to try heroin.’ I know heroin is really the end of the line. But I have toyed with the idea before.”
But instead of trying the class-a drug, the singer – who has been open about her struggles with mental ill health – “kept having sex with other guys to fill the void,” adding, “I was totally out of control.”
This isn’t the first time that Lily’s opened up about her struggles that both contributed to and continued after her marriage split. Last month, she confessed to going to a dark place while she made her comeback in 2014, following time out to have her children, Ethel, six, and Marnie, five. She said, “I wasn’t eating, I wasn’t sleeping… I lost my identity. I was being a bad mum. I was being bad at my job. I’d wake up on a tour bus in the middle of Wisconsin and be hungover. I cheated on my husband.”
And things only got worse from there, with the eventual breakdown of her marriage and the loss of her home. But, thankfully, things are now far rosier for Lily, who’s been settled for two years with DJ boyfriend Dan London. The singer describes her relationship with ex Sam as “very friendly”, and revealed they share custody of their daughters on a weekon, week-off basis.
As for drugs, we’re told she’s happily clean – apart from whatever truth potion she’s taking that’s making her tell us all these things. n
