Praise be! Bieber and Hailey Baldwin have got engaged – but Selena Gomez isn’t happy
Forget Jelena, it’s all about Jailey now
There’s not much Justin Bieber can do that shocks us these days. Wearing his pants for one day, then throwing them away? Sure. Punching a fan in the face after they tried to get a selfie with him? Bit harsh, but hey-ho. But getting engaged to Hailey Baldwin while we were all looking the other way? Actual shocker.
The 24-year-old pop star was rumoured to have popped the question while on holiday with Hailey, 21, after having rekindled their on/off romance just a month previously. And the rumours were proven true when, just days later, Justin posted a picture of himself with the model daughter of actor Stephen – a ring firmly on her finger – alongside one of Justin’s classic rambling captions (see right) declaring his love for Hailey, and Jesus, of course.
Hailey also gave a shout out to the big man in her tweet, saying, “Not sure what I did in life to deserve such happiness but I am utterly grateful to God for giving me such an incredible person to share my life with! No words could ever express my gratitude.”
However, there was one person who was less than grateful to hear about the couple’s impending nuptials. It was only in February that Justin whisked then-girlfriend Selena Gomez to Jamaica to attend his dad’s wedding – but just a month later, they had split. The childhood sweethearts had been on and off since 2010, and now, with the news that Justin has well and truly moved on, we’re told Selena is heartbroken.
“Part of her knew this day would come eventually, but it’s still a shock,” an insider close to the actress tells heat. “It wasn’t that she fell out of love with Justin, she just needed him to grow up and stop being so self-obsessed and controlling. But

for all her flings, Justin is the only guy she’s ever loved and it’s going to be very tough seeing him and Hailey get married.”
Although Jelena had broken up more times than we’ve had hot dinners, our source believes that the actress, who’s rumoured to be dating teen Caleb Stevens, the brother of one of her friends, has never truly got over him.“selena and Justin went through a lot over the years, but they always came back to each other eventually, and she probably thought they would end up together. She’s realised she may never find a love like that again and she’s questioning whether letting him go was the right thing to do.”
When asked last week for her thoughts on their engagement, Selena didn’t answer. But her T-shirt, emblazoned with the phrase, “Only the strong survive,” seemed to speak volumes for her.
“Selena’s found it difficult to get over Justin, while he moved on quickly with Hailey,” the insider adds. “That’s got to be a slap in the face for her. She’s struggled a lot emotionally and she’s had her health issues, too [Selena suffers from autoimmune condition lupus, and has been in rehab several times for anxiety and depression]. It’s been a difficult couple of years for her and the last thing anyone wants is to see her back in rehab. But she’s always had a hard time coming to terms with her splits from Justin, and seeing him get engaged to someone else isn’t making it any easier.” n
