Inside Harper Beckham’s, ahem, low-key birthday
Yup, the party was as restrained as that pony
It’s the classic cliché: every little princess worth her (Veruca) salt must receive a few go-to gifts – her very own pony being top of the list. So, Harper Beckham’s seventh birthday, which she celebrated with her doting parents and elder brothers last week, ticked all the boxes. Despite keeping things “low-key” after getting some bad press last year for their VIP visit to Buckingham Palace, the Beckhams still managed to go all out for the big day, festooning their Cotswolds home with enough heart-shaped balloons and pink decorations to deck out Rupaul’s mansion. And, of course, they couldn’t resist sharing their love for their little lady with the masses.
“What can I say about my little princess, other than she is perfect in every possible way,” gushed David on Instagram. “Harper has turned seven. Happy birthday to my big girl!! This little one is so loved by her brothers, mummy and daddy.” Mum Victoria echoed his soppiness, writing, “Happy birthday baby girl x We love you so, so much x so many kisses!!!” Brothers Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, and Cruz, 13, were just as fawning. All lovely sentiments, guys, but Harper doesn’t have Instagram, remember? Let’s hope they wrote it in a card, too.
Last year, Harper’s sixth birthday celebrations drew some attention for all the wrong reasons, after the lucky girl and her friends – all dressed in Disney ballgowns – were treated to a royal tour and tea at Buckingham Palace… attended by real-life Princess Eugenie. Unsurprisingly, it all seemed a little, er, preferential for Joe Public’s liking. But despite toning things down this time around, you can be sure that Princess Beckham was suitably indulged – she has standards, after all. It would be cruel to downgrade too drastically.
The pièce de résistance on Harper’s happy day in the sun was, no doubt, THAT epic cake: a personalised, fondant-iced unicorn confection, complete with its own mystical horn, pink flowers and angelic wings.
